Meet Our Staff

  • Pastor: Adam Gordon

Reverend Adam Gordon is an ordained Elder from The Mississippi Conference of The United Methodist Church. Prior to his appointment to Boone First in July of 2022, Adam served churches in Kansas, Missouri, and Mississippi. Most recently, Adam served as an ACPE Chaplain Resident and Interfaith Chaplain with Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare in the MidSouth-Memphis, Tennessee area. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri (2004) and his Master of Divinity from Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Missouri (2008).

While Adam considers himself a “cradle Methodist,” his faith has been influenced by a number of different Christian traditions and practices. Some of the experiences that have deepened his appreciation for the beautiful and diverse expressions of God’s presence in the world involve pilgrimages to The Holy Lands of Israel and Palestine, Rome and Assisi in Italy, Iznik (Ancient Nicaea) and Ephesus in Modern-day Turkey, annual silent retreats with the Benedictine Trappist monks of The Abbey of Gethsemani in Bardstown, Kentucky, and regular United Methodist Volunteer In Mission (UMVIM) trips to Costa Rica and El Salvador. Many of these experiences have helped Adam in developing a care for the local church’s impact in the world and the ways in which it engages in healthy, loving relationships with God and neighbor.

Adam is one half of a clergy couple. His wife and seminary sweetheart, Amanda, is the appointed Senior Pastor of the Ames First/Colo/Collins Charge. As a native Missourian, Adam cheers on his professional hometown teams for baseball (St. Louis Cardinals & Kansas City Royals), football (Kansas City Chiefs), and hockey (St. Louis Blues)…he’s really looking forward to becoming an Iowa State Cyclones fan, too! He also enjoys reading books on theology, culture, and history, traveling with Amanda, and hiking in state and national parks.
